
Schouten Island Tours
Schouten Island is situated approximately 1.6 kilometres below the coast of the Tasmanian Freycinet Peninsula. A rugged paradise, Schouten Island is home to incredible marine life and coastal landforms that portray beautiful Tasmanian wilderness.
Guided kayaking snorkelling and tours throughout the island provide a unique escape destination and the opportunity to experience all that the Freycinet Peninsula has to offer.
If you want to go for the whole Schouten Island experience, tour packages are available at a range of prices from 2 nights to a whole 4 days on the island.
Some social reasons for embarking on a tour of Schouten Island include; it is a wonderful experience which will bring everyone on the tour together and unite them in an outdoor adventure, it gives you the chance to explore the beautiful, rugged Tasmanian coastline and enjoy the island, by going on this tour you benefit the community by adding to the tourism venture and helping the members of the community who work on the island and in the tour company.
Accommodation:
If you purchase a tour from 2 nights onwards, you receive the option of staying in cabins, or sleeping in tents. The extra charge of a cabin tour comes with added bonuses of gourmet dining on local produce and the luxury of sleeping in a comfortable bed!
Campgrounds are maintained at Moreys Bay, Crocketts Bay and Trumpeter Bay with and cabins have also been constructed near the campsites for an added benefit in tours. Water is provided in tanks at all campsites, as well as at the caretakers' hut.
There are three separate tour packages available, with options for each. To reduce the impact on the environment and landforms of Schouten Island, hiking tracks have not been built and maintained, so guided walking tours are not available. Some tracks are marked on the island, however paths are not clear and tours are not provided for hiking trips.
3 Day Tour:
The three day tour consists of a 2 night kayaking and scuba diving experience, with all meals provided. A guided kayaking trip and scuba diving off Trumpeter Bay is the perfect way to get outside on holiday.
Day 1:
Board the Schouten Island Ferry from Coles Bay and admire the spectacular coastline of the Freycinet Peninsula on the half hour boat ride (Departure time, 10:30am).
Arrive on Schouten Island at Morey's Bay and settle in to the comfortable cabin or set up your tent (tents included for hire in tour package, or bring your own).
Explore the coast of Crocketts Bay and Black Patch Bay on the guided kayaking tour (kayaks provided), and be treated to a wonderful gourmet lunch sourced from local produce at the Crocketts Bay Dining Area.
Kayak back to Moreys Bay and enjoy a delicios dinner, before falling asleep to the sound of the ocean.
Day 2:
Depart from Moreys Bay on the SCHOUTEN 2 and travel across the Schouten Passage, past Masons Downfall to Trumpeter Bay.
Deposit your belongings in the Trumpeter Bay cabin or set up camp, and head down to the beach ready for an underwater adventure. Swim through the waving kelp forests of Trumpeter Bay (wetsiuts, flippers and snorkels provided) and experience the guided underwater tour of Schouten Island.
Eat lunch, and then relax on the beach or go for a short walk before finishing the day with our beautiful gourmet dinner.
Day 3:
After packing your belongings into the boat, embark on a guided kayaking adventure from Trumpeter Bay around Cape Baudin to Chain Locker Bay. Enjoy the last day on the island with a complimentary picnic luch on the beach before returning to Coles Bay on the main Freycinet Peninsula.

4 Day Tour:
An alternative to the quick get away of the 2 night Schouten Island tour package, is the 3 night experience, with guided kayaking tours, snorkling trail and special bird spotting adventure.
Day 1:
Board the Schouten Island Ferry from Coles Bay and admire the spectacular coastline of the Freycient Peninsula on the half hour boat ride (Departure time, 9:00am). Enjoy lunch on the scenic ferry ride as you enjoy the beautiful coastline of the Freycinet Peninsula.
Arrive on Schouten Island at Morey's Bay and
prepare for a guided kayaking trip to the coast of the Western Gully (all of our luggage will be transported to your destination by our boat).
Settle in to the cosy cabin or set up your tents (tents included for hire or bring your own!)
Enjoy the landscape of the beautiful west coast of Schouten Island, before dining on a wonderful gourmet meal and retreating to bed.
Day 2:
Eat a delicious breakfast and pack up camp
Board the SCHOUTEN 2 and embark on the trip from Western Gully around Cape Faure to Sarah Ann Bay. Eat luch and settle into the cabins at this sheltered beach and settle into the cabins or construct your tents.
Enjoy the fascinating underwater landscape of Schouten Island off the coast of Sarah Ann Bay (wetsuits, flippers and snorkels provided) with our guided snorkling tour.
Dine on a lovely fresh produce meal and go to sleep to the sound of the ocean.
Day 3:
Eat a delicious breakfast before packing up and setting out on a guided kayaking trip around the south ciast of Schouten Island to Hen and Chicken Bay. Experience the incredible wildlife of Schouten Island with our tour of the bird colonies and nesting sites along the coast by boat. Eat a beautiful dinner and relax.
As the day begins to fade, get ready for a night time adventure. Layer on your warm clothes and watch as the Little Penguins waddle outside.
Day 4:
Rise bright and early for your last day on the island. Munch on a quick breakfast and pack your luggage onto the SCHOUTEN 2.
Set off on a boat trip around the Eastern most tip of the island and round Cape Sonnet before landing at Chain Locker Bay.
Enjoy our beautiful complimentary picnic lunch on the beach, as you relax and admire the rugged wilderness of Schouten Island, before heading on the ferry back to Coles Bay.
